Let’s talk about the Romeike family — you know, the German Christians who fled their country because homeschooling was literally illegal. Yeah, illegal. Not “we prefer you don’t,” but “we will fine you into oblivion and maybe steal your kids if you don’t comply” level illegal.
In Germany, the government has a serious case of education control freak syndrome. The Romeikes wanted to skip over state-mandated gender ideology and evolution lectures and just teach their kids math and Moses. For this heinous crime, they were hit with thousands of euros in fines, and their kids were physically escorted to school by police. That's not schooling — that’s state-sponsored kidnapping with a bell schedule.
So, like any sane family being threatened for teaching their kids how to read without state propaganda, they did what America used to be proud of — they packed up and legally entered the United States in 2008 to ask for asylum. Real asylum. Not “I got caught trafficking fentanyl” asylum. Not “I lost my court date and now I’m demanding free housing in a luxury hotel” asylum. Actual fear-of-government-persecution asylum.
An immigration judge in 2010 said, “Yep, this is persecution,” and granted them asylum. But then, enter Obama, with his administration sprinting in like hall monitors on steroids to appeal the ruling.
Why?
Because granting asylum to a Christian homeschooling family might set a dangerous precedent — like, oh I don’t know — acknowledging that not all “Western democracies” are the land of liberty when it comes to parental rights or religious freedom. And we can’t have that, can we? Because that might open the gates to more asylum-seekers who aren’t looking for handouts — but for freedom. Worse still, they might be conservative, self-reliant, faith-driven families who believe in things like discipline, constitutional rights, and gasp — voting Republican. We’re talking about families who raise kids with critical thinking skills, not CRT talking points. That’s not the demographic Democrat government wants. No, it’s far easier to import the dependent, the docile, the dredges of society — people who can be softened with free housing, programmed with “inclusive” propaganda, and herded into voting blocs with stimulus bribes.
And just when you thought they were safe — Biden’s DHS popped up in 2023 like a horror movie sequel. They told this family (now with seven kids, two of them U.S. citizens, a dad who’s a church pianist and university accompanist, and zero criminal record) to get out in four weeks. No reason. No warning. Just get gone. Bet you didn't hear anything about this deportation order on the news! Why not?
Meanwhile, you had Biden saying--They should come! "Surge the border" and we (taxpayers) will provide illegal border crossers with free iPhones, prepaid debit cards, starter homes, and free flights to a city of your choice with better service than Delta. But the family who legally entered, built a life, paid taxes, and homeschooled their children?
They get a one-way ticket to the bureaucratic gulag.
And let’s be honest — if the Romeikes were waving rainbow flags and claiming asylum from a country that banned drag story hour, they’d be honorary citizens by now with a TikTok docuseries and a diversity grant. You know that's true.
But no — they’re Christians. Homeschoolers. Productive. Independent. And worst of all, not dependent on the government. That makes them dangerous especially with all those kids who might make more kids who think just like their Conservative parents.

Just NOT Conservative, Christians who want to homeschool their children to think independently.
This isn’t immigration enforcement.
It’s ideological pruning.
As of October 2024, the Romeike family remains in the United States under a one-year extension granted by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). This temporary reprieve came only after immense public backlash and a wave of support, including over 100,000 petition signatures and bipartisan pressure from lawmakers. Their crime? Living peacefully, raising well-educated children, and daring to exercise parental rights.
A private immigration bill, H.R. 5423, has been introduced in Congress to grant the family permanent residency. While it sits in bureaucratic limbo, the family continues doing what they've always done: contributing, working, worshiping, and raising future Americans — the kind that believe in freedom, faith, and the Constitution. The kind of people today's government seems to find most dangerous.
But hey — if they were here illegally, maybe they’d have housing and a gift basket by now.
